A Boyertown, PA native, I graduated from Wilkes University in 1975 with a BS Degree in Music Education. After graduation, I taught secondary instrumental music with the Department of the Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs in Utah until 1978, when I returned home to PA. It was at that time I developed an interest in becoming a piano technician and began studying piano technology with Merrill Jackson, a former member of the staff at The Otto Trefz Piano Factory of Philadelphia, PA (one of the first piano rebuilding facilities in the world).
Following the conclusion of a year long training course with Mr. Jackson, I attained the title of Registered Piano Technician in The Piano Technician’s Guild. As a member of this organization, I have continued to upgrade my skills through a wide range of course offerings and educational opportunities presented at regional, as well as national seminars and conventions. I have also served our local chapter as president, vice president, and secretary.
After completing my training, I was hired as the staff and concert technician for a large music store in Reading, PA servicing Steinway, Mason & Hamlin, Baldwin, Yamaha, Kawai, and other major brands of pianos. As the local Steinway franchise technician, I attended Steinway’s prestigious week-long training session at their factory in New York.
For over 30 years I have been a full-time technician and have serviced instruments for many nationally recognized artists (see Notable Clients) as well as many local institutions, teachers and private piano owners.
